ASRT Tackles Egypt's Top Challenges

The Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) launched an initiative to support innovative ideas that contribute to solving societal problems through scientific research & innovation… Therefore, Yomken.com contributed to share those challenges on the site in order to collect the largest number of proposals for innovative solutions from its network of inventors and people with brilliant ideas.

The chosen Problem Solver will be rewarded with a technical and financial support from the Academy in addition to its research centers.

A- Railway collisions:

Each 2 to 3 years, Egypt grieves many human causalities in 2 trains crashes or an accident with a car (more than 500 injured and killed by 10 incidents since 1992) due to a human error and the negligence from people in duty… However, the technology proved it can eliminate a large part of that problem without relying on human intervention!

The challenge is:

1 – How to design an automatic system to solve the problems of railway collisions and to close and open railway crossings?

 

B- Egypt’s traffic congestion and car exhausts:

How many times did you try to spend two hours in transportation for a 10-minute distance? Traffic congestion witnessed in Egypt –especially in urban areas–has various reasons behind it, but it leads to bigger problems than just being late on your times like the heavy energy consumption and its environmental pollution consequences.

Therefore, there is an expensive health bill to pay by the crowd.

The Egyptian economy bear estimated annual losses of $ 400 million only because of the time lost in to traffic, knowing that the expected population of Cairo in 2020 is up to 20 million! Is it possible to intervene through technological methods to lift this burden on your city?

Challenges:

2 – How to create an automatic system to solve the traffic problems and work on its flow and activating its laws?

3 – How to design a device for optimizing fuel in internal combustion engines?

4 – How can the development of engine based on the non-conventional fuels (e.g. air, water, gravity force,…)?

5 – How to use a mixture of methanol and gasoline as a fuel for cars in order to save energy?

C- Developing Industrial Dyes for SMEs:

Owners of small local workshops in low-tech industries who usually work with old methods are facing a fierce competition with the South-Eastern Asian products. These low-priced products (mainly Chinese ones) have invaded the Egyptian market with their numerous colors and forms to the extent that the output of a working day in these workshops doesn’t reach the equivalent of one the Chinese factories. 

So there will be a significant impact on the community if these workshops were able to expand their productive capacity, instead of turning them into shops selling imported products because of slow technological upgrading or lack of awareness about available solutions for their challenges.

One of those challenges is the problem of designing molds and industrial dyes that are accommodated with the capacities of these workshops.

The challenge:

6 – How to develop an advanced system for designing and manufacturing industrial dyes in a competitive cost and with different forms?
