Fishermen Suit

Can you design a costume for more than 32,000 fishermen in Egypt that provides them with necessary protection against diseases that are transmitted by water without affecting free movement or damage to fishing gear?

Call for innovation for designers and specialists of security and occupational safety to design a protective suit for fishermen at a cost not exceeding 750 pounds. A 12,000 Egyptian reward will be presented by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology for the implementation of a prototype design and testing with fishermen in cooperation with Al Baraka Youth Society. The problem:

Egypt produces more than one million tons of fish annually through fishing operations in the White and Mediterranean countries and various lakes. Despite this productivity, there are many problems related to the fishing process, including pollution, overfishing and encroachment on some lakes. The number of fishermen working in the profession is about 32 thousand, in addition to 300 thousand direct workers, including sailors and sailors and 135 thousand indirect workers, other than workers in retail factories and ice factories, bringing the number of workers in the profession of fishing and depend on living more than one million families.[1]

 

The pollution of the water is caused by the direct disposal of factories and the spread of diseases by a large number of fishermen and their families where diseases such as schistosomiasis, which are not detected early and cause complications of liver damage, which leads to the cessation of the fisherman in addition to carrying large sums of money during the treatment process If possible.

 

The fisherman usually goes to work in his daily clothes, while some, according to the Al Baraka Youth Association, which supports fishermen, buy or rent a dive allowance to prevent the above-mentioned diseases. The price of the new suit to 2500 Egyptian pounds and used to 1500 Egyptian pounds, which puts a heavy financial burden on the fishermen.

 

The challenge:

The challenge is to design and implement a full uniform or protective equipment for water-exposed parties (hands and feet) that protects the fisherman during the performance of his / her career and avoids the incidence of difficult-to-treat diseases:[2]

• Provides free movement

• Do not allow water to enter or get wet

• Made of a material that provides good ventilation of the body and absorption of sweat

• Resists rupture by fishing hooks and other equipment

• Keep your body warm

• Takes into account different sizes and sizes

• Do not exceed the cost of one outfit for 750 Egyptian pounds

Reward and Terms:

The winner will receive a reward of 12,000 EGP provided by the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, to implement the solution in cooperation with Al-Baraka Association in the youth in Alexandria, according to the following conditions:

1. The solution shall be in the form of a design that describes the characteristics of the uniform, the materials used in its manufacture, the cost of the various manufacturing stages, etc.

2. The reward will be used in the implementation of a prototype that proves the effectiveness of the design to be tested by the fishermen

3. The winner will make any necessary modifications to the costume based on the fishermen's experience and deliver a final copy

4. The solution should include a clear plan of action including implementation stages, timeline, required tools/materials, estimated budget, and technical support required (if applicable); The plan should also contain the cost of the costume in the case of the production of 100 units.

5. The reward will be given in installments, in accordance to milestones set by the innovator(s) according to their plan of action;

6. As per our platform Privacy Policy, in case the intellectual property rights are not registered, the innovator should include the minimum details required to judge the technical validity and feasibility of the solution without full technical specifications.
