For food processing experts! Contribute to the development of an "Instant Freek" Soup to help people with anemia get a quick and easy nutritious meal. Think of Instant Freek Soup as instant noodles but using freek instead of wheat flour.

The Problem:

Nabd El Hayat is a non-profit foundation that aims to provide solutions through technology in the health, sustainability and empowerment fields. They were responsible for the biggest blood donation campaign in the history of Egypt in February 2016. Now their current goal is to help anemia patients to get the nutrition they need from wheat by offering them a ready-made delicious meal, more precisely, a Freek Soup.

Challenge Background:

Anemia has spread lately in Egypt, especially among children, as almost 50% of them suffer from it.¹ One of the main and popular causes of anemia is iron deficiency. This cause can be easily countered through eating iron-rich meals or products such as wheat. Currently in Egypt, the most available product containing wheat is bread, where as a result of such large production of bread, Egypt is known to be one of the biggest importers of wheat.

However, bread alone is not enough to help anemic patients get the nutrients they need, which is where the idea for this challenge came from. The idea here is to find a way to turn Freek Soup into an instant-made product. Think of instant-made noodles but with freek instead of wheat flour.

The Challenge:

The basic idea is to research and test a healthy formula and/or a food processing method to develop Instant Freek for instant-made Freek Soup. Keeping in mind the following:

1. It should be ready to eat using only hot water, so even a 6-year-old child can make it.
2. It should be affordable for everyone.

Reward & Conditions:

The reward consists of potential pre-incubation and piloting fund from Misr ElKheir GESR Incubator, subject to GESR approval of the proposed solution, and according to the following conditions:

1. The solution should be provided as an applied solution with proof (i.e sample, images, video, etc.).
2. The solution should include a clear plan of action indicating the estimated duration of each step and details on the implementation using the reward for creating a sample of the product (i.e. the instant Freek). The plan should also contain the cost per 1 kg of freek in case of mass production (e.g. 25 kg).
3. In case of piloting fund, it will be given in installments, in accordance to milestones set by the solver according to his/her plan of action.
4. As per our website policy, in case the intellectuall property are not registered, the innovator may only submit a general overview of the solution without any technical details.
