Can you provide an innovative low tech machine for stamping leather products without damaging the leather?
An invitation to makers, electronics, mechanics, automation and mechatronics engineers to submit their design and method of application to stamp leather products with names. Please read on for more details!
Leather products are characterized by durability and high quality as well as their elegance, which has made them endearing material for many product designers, and while leather on its own looks great, there are many different strategies that skilled workers employ to make it look even better, such as the deployment of engravings and decorations.
The engraving process on leather products is done through different techniques, one of which is stamping (branding technique) or drawing (pyrography or carving technique). However, names are stamped and burned on leather manually using a metallic machine with a wooden handle and some metallic letters, which were used in old typewriters, that are manually assembled, placed in a hand-held tool, and heated using fire to finally stamp and burn the name on the leather. However, over time, the metallic letters which are difficult to replace are damaged, making the traditional method unsustainable and impractical.
To design an innovative, sustainable, and practical machine for stamping A4-sized leather with names. The submitted solutions must fulfill the following requirements:
Low tech
Low maintenance
Low operating cost
Safe to operate
Friendly interface
Providing all the necessary tools and manuals needed for the maintenance of the machine
The best solution will be implemented according to the following conditions:
The solution should include a clear plan of action including implementation stages, timeline, required tools/materials, estimated budget, and technical support required (if applicable).
The reward will be given in installments, in accordance with milestones set by the innovator(s) according to their plan of action.
Preference will be given to machines based on locally available components and at a total cost less than 10,000 EGP.
If successful, a percentage of profits can be negotiated in the case of mass production.
Machine functions and efficiency will be tested by the solution seeker before final approval.
The innovator / solver is committed to providing technical assistance to deal with any problems that may occur within the first 3 months after delivery of the machine.
The proposed solution should include a user manual, instructions and a training plan for employees to use the machine.
As per our platform Terms and conditions, in case the intellectual property rights are not registered, the innovator should include the minimum details required to judge the technical validity and feasibility of the solution without full technical specifications.
